BENNYS2GO Charge on Credit Card: Merchant or Card Test?

A BENNYS2GO charge on your credit card, debit card, or bank statement may refer to Benny’s 2 Go, a beer, wine, and liquor retailer historically located in Hagerstown, Maryland. The transaction may also appear as BENNYS2GO.COM, HTTPSBENNYS2G, BENNY2GO, or another shortened variation.

Several cardholders commenting on this page reported small transactions they did not recognize, sometimes followed by a refund or reversal. That pattern could resemble a card-verification or test transaction, but we could not verify who initiated the charges or establish that the merchant itself was responsible. Contact your card issuer promptly if no authorized purchase explains the transaction.

What Is the BENNYS2GO Charge on My Credit Card?

BENNYS2GO appears to be a merchant descriptor associated with a business known as Benny’s 2 Go in Hagerstown, Maryland.

The historical merchant information found for the business includes:

  • Business name: Benny’s 2 Go
  • Business type: Beer, wine, liquor, and specialty beverage retailer
  • Reported address: 37 Eastern Boulevard North, Hagerstown, MD 21740
  • Reported phone: 1-301-671-2100
  • Social page: Benny’s 2 Go on Facebook

The current operating status of the business and its former website could not be conclusively verified. Do not enter payment information into an unfamiliar website merely because it resembles the descriptor on your statement.

  • CHECKCARD BENNYS2GO
  • CHKCARD BENNYS2GO
  • POS DEBIT BENNYS2GO
  • PENDING BENNYS2GO
  • BENNYS2GO followed by a merchant-category or transaction code

Banks may shorten the business name, remove punctuation, truncate the website, or add a processing location and reference number.

Could BENNYS2GO Be a Legitimate Purchase?

Yes. The descriptor could represent an authorized purchase involving:

  • Beer, wine, or liquor
  • A growler fill or packaged beverage
  • A purchase made at the Hagerstown store
  • An order placed through the former business website
  • A purchase made by another authorized cardholder
  • A transaction made while traveling
  • A delayed or adjusted merchant transaction

Ask family members and other authorized card users whether they recognize the amount, date, or merchant.

Why Did Cardholders Report Unauthorized BENNYS2GO Charges?

This page contains multiple cardholder reports from August 2023 involving transactions the commenters said they did not authorize.

The reported amounts included approximately:

  • $1
  • $5
  • $7
  • $10
  • $20
  • $50
  • $100

Several commenters said they lived far from Hagerstown or had never visited the merchant. Some reported that their bank canceled or replaced the card. Others said the transaction was later refunded or reversed.

These reports do not establish who initiated the transactions. Possible explanations could include:

  • Unauthorized use of stolen card information
  • A small card-testing transaction
  • A merchant-account or payment-processing problem
  • A canceled or reversed authorization
  • A descriptor attached to a different online transaction
  • A legitimate purchase forgotten by the cardholder
  • A purchase made by another authorized user
  • A mistaken or mismatched merchant record

ChargeOnMyCard.com could not verify which explanation applied to any individual report.

Does a Small BENNYS2GO Charge Mean Someone Is Testing the Card?

Possibly. Fraudsters sometimes attempt a small transaction to determine whether stolen card information is active before trying additional purchases.

Warning signs may include:

  • A $1, $5, or similarly small transaction you do not recognize
  • A charge from a distant merchant
  • Several attempts for different amounts
  • A charge that is immediately reversed
  • A bank fraud alert
  • Other unfamiliar transactions appearing soon afterward

A small amount should not be ignored merely because it was refunded. Contact the issuer if you did not authorize it.

Why Was the BENNYS2GO Charge Refunded or Reversed?

A later credit or reversal could occur because:

  • The merchant canceled the transaction.
  • A temporary authorization expired.
  • The card issuer rejected the transaction.
  • A fraud-control system reversed it.
  • The purchase was refunded.
  • The merchant never completed settlement.
  • Someone tested the card and then voided the payment.

A reversal does not identify who submitted the original transaction and does not guarantee that the card information is secure.

What Does HTTPSBENNYS2G Mean?

HTTPSBENNYS2G appears to be a shortened website-style portion of the merchant descriptor. The bank may have truncated the former `bennys2go.com` domain because statement descriptions have limited space.

Examples reported by cardholders included wording similar to:

  • BENNYS2GO.COM HTTPSBENNYS2G
  • HTTPSBENNYS2G MD
  • GO.COM with BENNYS2GO in the expanded details
  • BENNYS2GO followed by numbers or a Maryland location

The `HTTPS` wording does not prove that the cardholder personally visited the website. It may simply reflect the merchant’s online account or payment descriptor.

Why Does the Descriptor Show a Different Maryland ZIP Code?

Some reports included a Maryland location code that did not match the historical Hagerstown store ZIP code.

A mismatch could be caused by:

  • A payment processor’s location
  • A merchant-account registration address
  • Bank or card-network routing data
  • Outdated merchant information
  • A truncated or incorrectly formatted descriptor

Ask the card issuer for the complete merchant record rather than relying only on the shortened city, state, or ZIP information.

How to Identify the Complete BENNYS2GO Transaction

  1. Open the transaction in your bank or card app.
  2. Record the full descriptor exactly as shown.
  3. Note whether it is pending, completed, refunded, or reversed.
  4. Record the amount, transaction date, and posting date.
  5. Check receipts, email, text messages, and online orders.
  6. Ask every authorized cardholder.
  7. Ask the issuer for the expanded merchant information.
  8. Compare the merchant address and phone number.
  9. Report it immediately if no authorized purchase explains it.

What Information Should You Ask the Bank For?

Ask the card issuer or bank for:

  • The full merchant name
  • The merchant identification number
  • The merchant category code
  • The complete address
  • The merchant telephone number
  • The payment processor
  • Whether the transaction was card-present or online
  • Whether a chip, magnetic stripe, keyed card number, or digital wallet was used
  • The authorization code
  • Whether there were additional attempts
  • Whether the transaction was reversed by the merchant or issuer

This information may help determine whether the charge came from the historical Hagerstown retailer or merely used similar merchant wording.

What Should You Do if BENNYS2GO Is Unauthorized?

  1. Lock or freeze the card through the issuer’s app.
  2. Call the number printed on the back of the card.
  3. Tell the issuer that you did not authorize the transaction.
  4. Ask whether additional attempts were made.
  5. Request a replacement card when recommended.
  6. Change the card PIN if applicable.
  7. Review recent activity for other small transactions.
  8. Remove the old card from digital wallets and saved accounts.
  9. Enable transaction alerts.
  10. Keep the dispute or fraud case number.

Do not call a telephone number contained in an unexpected text message, email, advertisement, or comment. Use the number on the back of your card or the issuer’s official app.

What if the BENNYS2GO Charge Is on a Debit Card?

Report an unauthorized debit-card transaction immediately. Debit-card transactions remove money directly from a bank account, and applicable protections can depend on how quickly the problem is reported.

Ask the bank:

  • Whether the card should be closed and replaced
  • Whether temporary credit is available during the investigation
  • Whether written confirmation is required
  • Whether related transactions are still pending
  • Whether the bank-account number itself was exposed

What if the BENNYS2GO Charge Is on a Credit Card?

Notify the credit-card issuer immediately and follow its billing-dispute instructions.

Keep copies of:

  • The statement containing the charge
  • Online dispute confirmations
  • Written dispute notices
  • Fraud case numbers
  • Replacement-card information
  • Any response from the merchant or issuer

Frequently Asked Questions About BENNYS2GO Charges

What is BENNYS2GO on my bank statement?

It may refer to Benny’s 2 Go, a beer, wine, and liquor retailer historically located in Hagerstown, Maryland.

What is BENNYS2GO.COM?

It appears to be a website-style merchant descriptor associated with the former Benny’s 2 Go domain.

What does HTTPSBENNYS2G mean?

It most likely represents a shortened version of the merchant’s website or online-payment descriptor.

Is BENNYS2GO a legitimate merchant?

Benny’s 2 Go appears to have been a real Hagerstown retailer. That does not establish that every transaction using the descriptor was authorized by the cardholder.

Is BENNYS2GO a scam?

We could not verify that the merchant itself operated a scam. Multiple cardholders reported unauthorized transactions, but the cause and person responsible were not independently established.

Why did I receive a $1 BENNYS2GO charge?

It could be an authorization, a legitimate small purchase, or a possible card-test transaction. Contact the issuer if you did not authorize it.

Why was the charge later refunded?

The transaction may have been voided, rejected, reversed, or refunded. A reversal does not explain who initiated the original payment.

Should I ignore it because the amount was small?

No. Report any transaction you did not authorize, even when it is only a few dollars or was later reversed.

Should I contact Benny’s 2 Go or my bank first?

Contact the bank or card issuer first when the charge is clearly unauthorized. The issuer can secure the account, review other attempts, and begin the dispute process.

Do I need a replacement card?

The card issuer may recommend replacement when an unauthorized transaction shows that the card number could be compromised.

Why does the transaction show Maryland when I live elsewhere?

The location may describe the merchant or processor rather than the cardholder’s location. A distant location can still be a reason to investigate an unrecognized transaction.

Help Other Cardholders Identify This Charge

If you saw BENNYS2GO, BENNYS2GO.COM, HTTPSBENNYS2G, or a related descriptor, please share the complete wording, amount, transaction status, and how the bank resolved it.

Helpful details include whether the transaction was pending, completed, reversed, refunded, recognized as a Hagerstown purchase, or treated as unauthorized by the card issuer.

Do not post complete card numbers, bank-account numbers, expiration dates, security codes, authorization codes, personal addresses, passwords, PINs, or one-time security codes.

Why Rely on ChargeOnMyCard.com?

ChargeOnMyCard.com researches confusing credit-card, debit-card, online-merchant, location-based, small-authorization, and bank-statement descriptors using available merchant information and cardholder reports.

When a legitimate merchant name is also associated with allegations of unauthorized activity, we separate confirmed business information from unverified cardholder claims and explain the steps needed to investigate each individual transaction.

Upon reviewing my account, there was a $1.00 withdrawal from Benny’s 2 Go and then a week later, it was refunded back into my account. My bank reported it as an unauthorized fraudulent transaction and shut the card down immediately. Report this vendor immediately. This appears to be a test run to see if they have access to your account. So, probably through the dark web as I was alerted months back that my info was compromised.
